The Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team wrapped up the Arrowhead Conference season with a third-place finish on Wednesday at TPC Deere Run in a meet hosted by Black Hawk.

The Chargers’ Cole Hopping (Vermont, Ill./VIT) and Trace White (Mount Pleasant, Iowa/Mount Pleasant) each posted top-10 finishes, with Hopping shooting an 8-over-par 79 and White tying for ninth with an 81. Grant Campbell was a shot by White to tie for 11th. Sandburg’s score of 327 was rounded out with an 85 from Grant Otting (Taylor Ridge, Ill./Rockridge)

Black Hawk shot 304 as a team to edge Illinois Valley by two strokes. Highland (351) was fourth and Sauk Valley (355) placed fifth.

Black Hawk’s Petyon Perez carded a 1-under 70 to take medalist honors by a stroke over IVCC’s Ben Cyr.

Hopping and Otting will represent the Chargers at the NJCAA Division II National Championship May 18-21 at Swan Lake in Plymouth, Ind. The pair earned their way to nationals during the Region IV meet in October. This marks the ninth straight year and 13th time in the last 14 years that Sandburg men’s golf has qualified at least one individual for nationals or advanced as a team.
